Four NanoLight group members receive scholarship and awards for excellence in research and graduate studies.
On April 20th, 2026, the Department of Electrical Engineering held the 2026 Electrical Engineering Undergraduate & Graduate Spring Awards Ceremony in Robb Hall at the Hintz Alumni Center to recognize graduate students for their outstanding academic achievements, research excellence, and service contributions. We are delighted to share that four members of the NanoLight group were honored with prestigious departmental awards this year.
Among the awardees, Dr. MD Tarek Rahman received the Dr. Nirmal K Bose Dissertation Excellence Award, which recognizes exceptional doctoral dissertation research and scholarly achievement. Mr. Bofeng Liu was awarded the Arthur H. Waynick Graduate Scholarship Award, honoring graduate students with outstanding academic performance and strong research promise. Mr. Abrar Islam received the Emeritus Professor C. Russell Philbrick Research Assistant Award, which acknowledges excellence in research support and contributions to the department’s scholarly activities. In addition, Ms. Elham Balaei was honored with the Melvin P. Bloom Memorial Graduate Scholarship Award, presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in graduate study and research.



These honors reflect the hard work, dedication, and academic excellence of the recipients, and also highlight the NanoLight group’s continued commitment to impactful research and graduate mentorship. Through their efforts, the awardees have made important contributions to the group’s research in nanophotonics, metasurfaces, and related areas.
