Xingjie Ni

Principle Investigator

Dr. Ni is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining Penn State, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, in Professor Xiang Zhang’s laboratory. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) in 2012 under the supervision of Professor Vladimir M. Shalaev. He received his B.S. in Engineering Physics (2005) and M.S. in Automation (2007) from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

Dr. Ni’s research focuses on the modeling, nanofabrication, and characterization of metamaterials and nanophotonic devices, including transformation-optics structures and computational electromagnetics. He is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, Moore Inventor Fellowship, NASA Early Career Faculty Award, Sony Faculty Innovation Award, 3M Faculty Award, and the Charles H. Fetter Endowed Faculty Fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and a member of the American Physical Society (APS), the Materials Research Society (MRS), and SPIE. Dr. Ni also serves as the faculty advisor to the OSA/SPIE Student Chapter at Penn State.
